Conan O’Brien, Night Two: Heavy Losses Reported

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, Cable, Ratings, Video,

Viewers were excited to tune into Conan O’Brien’s Monday premiere … but they weren’t as pumped on Tuesday. Conan’s cable show lost one-third of its viewers in the transition from Day 1 to Day 2.

Maybe Jon Stewart is to blame? O’Brien’s new late night talk show is competing directly with the cable king, and we don’t like his odds. Monday’s Conan scored 4.2 million viewers, compared to 2.8 million the following night. (His rival Jay Leno averages around 3.6 million for his famous network gig.)

Critics were largely unenthusiastic with the Monday premiere. One writer at the Los Angeles Times complained about O’Brien’s endless NBC jokes, a gag that’s running a little thin nine months after the Tonight Show fallout.

The Daily Show is Number One

Maybe Conan O’Brien shouldn’t get too cozy in his new office at TBS.

The former NBC funnyman will debut his Conan, a new late night series, at 11 pm on Monday … and that means he’s facing the toughest of all late night competition.

According to TVByTheNumbers, The Daily Show is the top-rated late night show among adults age 18 - 49. The numbers are in, and Jon Stewart is officially the king of late night … but during one of the weeks reviewed, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman were all showing re-runs.

We have a sneaking suspicion that all Daily Show ratings spikes come just when FOX News hires new staffers.

Leno vs. O’Brien: Let the Ratings Decide

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, NBC, Ratings,

This summer is historic in television history: it’s the lowest-rated summer on record for The Tonight Show, which was hosted by Conan O’Brien this time last year.

Conan enjoyed the coveted hosting gig for only seven months before NBC made the well-publicized decision to … the host O’Brien formerly replaced.

is currently pulling in about 3.8 million viewers per episode, only 1 million of which are in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. But, though he may not be beating O’Brien in ratings, Leno is still getting more viewers than his late-night rival David Letterman - by about 22 percent.

VIDEO: Jay Leno Uses Terrorism to Insult Conan O’Brien

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, NBC, Video,

Pay careful attention to the last ten seconds of this video. If you look at the dimmed, lower portion of the image, you’ll notice a small, silent joke bomb placed by Team to insult Conan O’Brien. The subject matter? Terrorism. The vehicle? Facebook. The result? That remains to be seen.

While doing a bit about would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, the Tonight Show host presented a Facebook page purportedly owned by Shahzad. On it, you can see that Faisal belongs to a few groups: Al Qaeda, the Pakistan Frequent Flyers Club and Team Coco, the moniker used by supporters.

Conan O’Brien Speaks Out Against Jay Leno, NBC

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Talk Shows, CBS, Gossip, Video,

May 1st, for late night fans, meant only one thing: Conan O’Brien’s vow of silence with NBC had expired. This weekend, he celebrated that holiday the way any star with something to say might: by giving a hard-hitting interview on national TV.

O’Brien has remained very tactful throughout the entire NBC late night debacle. He didn’t exactly take the gloves off during his time with , but he did make one thing pretty clear: he’s not happy with Jay Leno. “I do not think I will be hearing from him,” Conan said of his fellow late night host, who has now resumed his duties at The Tonight Show. “Who can say who won and who lost?” Conan asked. “I’m laughing ‘cause crying would be sad.”

VIDEO: Jon Stewart’s Message to FOX News

The ongoing war between Bernie Goldberg, FOX News contributor and frequent guest on O’Reilly Factor, and Jon Stewart, late-night Comedy Central variety show host, just got hilarious…though there’s probably zero chance that FOX News will find it so. It all started, according to Stewart, when he told FOX News to “go [expletive deleted] themselves” on his April 19 installment of .

Goldberg fired back during one of his visits to O’Reilly (Papa Bear to Stephen Colbert fans), calling a “funnyman” who only wants to crack jokes before an audience. “But if, clearly, you want to be a social commentator…you better find some guts,” Goldberg addressed his comments directly to Stewart.

On his April 20 show, Stewart had plenty to say in response to Bernie Goldberg - and by extension, everyone at FOX News.

Conan O’Brien Finds a New Home on TBS

UPDATE: Turner Entertainment Networks President Steve Koonin says “[Conan] can do whatever he wants to do” on TBS.

Conan O’Brien’s going to have a lot to talk about when he kicks off his road tour tonight.

Despite many assumptions that the former Tonight Show host would eventually form a new home at FOX, the comedian has decided to take show to cable. Come this November, O’Brien will become the new face of TBS.

The new late night program will air at 11:00, a decision that - who will see his show Lopez Tonight moved to midnight - is perfectly fine with. In fact, Lopez personally called O’Brien to assure him of that. “I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez assured fans. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.”
